Understanding Red & Near-Infrared Light

Not all light behaves the same way. LumiTherm combines two wavelengths — 660nm red light and 850nm near-infrared light — each with different optical properties and interactions with the body's tissues.

660 nm

Red Light

A visible red wavelength that is absorbed and scattered primarily within more superficial tissue. It is commonly studied in photobiomodulation research.

850 nm

Near-Infrared Light

An invisible wavelength that can generally penetrate further into tissue than visible red light. The amount reaching different tissue layers depends on several factors, including device output and tissue characteristics.
